Sugaring Hair Removal
One of the most popular hair removal methods is sugaring hair removal. This is an age old custom originating in
the Middle East. Sugaring hair removal is similar to waxing, but with less pain. The clean up afterwards is easier
as only natural products are used which will dissolve in water.
Sugaring hair removal uses sugar as the main component in the process of hair removal. You can immediately wash
off the solution with water as soon as you are satisfied with the results. Making your own sugar hair removal paste
is not a complicated task to do and you are likely to have all the ingredients required in your kitchen cupboard.
Here are some of the things you need to know when making your own hair removal solution.
The recipe is very simple with only three ingredients required. You need, sugar, lemon juice and water.
You also need a thick bottomed pan a wooden spoon and some measuring cups. You will need ¼ cup of water, ¼ cup of
lemon juice and 2 cups of sugar.
The process in making your sugar hair removal solution may remind you of making caramel. What you need to do
first is combine all ingredients in a pan. Warm gently on a medium heat and bring to the boil. Use a wooden spoon
and stir frequently to avoid the mixture burning. Continue simmering for about 25 minutes or to when the paste
acquires a caramel-like color. Put the paste in an air tight container, and let it cool there. Make sure you pour
it immediately after cooking so that the paste does not harden in the pan.
Hair removal using this paste is quite straight forward. Just make sure that the solution is cool enough to be
applied on your skin. You can check that by holding the container or by doing a finger tip test. The consistency
should resemble clay or you may warm your paste in the microwave until it is like honey. Do a patch test first
before applying to a larger area.
Before applying the sugar hair removal paste to your skin you must make sure the area to be treated is clean and
free of moisturisers and lotions so wash the area thoroughly. Then gently dust with baby powder as this will help
prevent the paste sticking to your skin.
Apply the paste to your skin against the direction of hair growth. This works well when you have warmed up the
paste. Make sure to apply firmly so that there is full contact with the hair and the paste is not just sitting on
top of the hair. Now pull the paste away in the direction of hair growth. You can re use the same paste once or
twice. When you are happy with the result simply wash any residue away.
Any hair that grows back should be much finer and after two or three applications the area could become
permanently hair free.
